All at once...server loads high, "who's online" most unknown locations...

I have no idea what is going on...but all at once I'm getting heavy server loads with average users.
    Server Load Averages1.83, 1.62, 1.23 94 users online (69 members & 25 guests).
Additionally, on the "who's online" almost all users are "unknown location" with an url string that is unreadable...."showthread....."

In fact...the URLS are almost all identical...:
    Unknown Location: /vb2/showthread.php?Image=ZG90QmFubmVyfHwwfDEwMjE1MDkwNjE=&s=cfd00590500629e2b47b684042937d30

I was told by the tech guy at the datacenter....
    MYSql
    240 minute average stay alive

Any clue what is going on and what I need to do to handle this?

    Thanks!

      1. log into telnet on server
      2. switch to root user
      3. find the access and error log files by typing one of the following until it reveals a log location

      locate access.log
      locate access_log
      locate error.log
      locate error_log

take note of the paths to those files
      4. now to look at what's in the file

      tail -100 /path/to/access_log

looks at the last 100 lines in the access_log

have you tried your web stats for your site too to see what are most referrers, and visited pages, and browser agents ?

OKie, part of my problem is that I'm on a mac...and telnet is weird on this mac. So, I've used webmin to access most of my server files (along with a great ftp program for server file viewing).

Add to that...my log files seem to be "full" for the normal access logs and have stopped logging? (I'm trying to find those now).

Okay, maybe the logs aren't full...8.2 for access, 12.2 for error...but webalizer isn't even working the past few days. Weird...!
