Sending A PM Is Suddenly Sloooow!!!

I haven't sent a private message on my forums since 2.2.4, however I've sent three this morning and each of them took for eeeeeeevvvvvvvvveeeeeeerrrrrrr to send. WTF?!?!? Posting new threads and replies is fine, why the difference with private messaging???

Only the exact same step-by-step changes I make to each version, none of which applies to private messaging.

Looks like the private messaging situation was just co-incidental, the problem is occurring with posts as well. In fact my last post took three attempts before it worked, with my error log revealing a timeout in functions.php

Why would it have suddenly become a problem overnight? I know the databases are in good order as before each backup I do an optimise and repair, and my log shows that ran fine last night.

Try switching off the email notification for PM's in your profile.

(This can also apply to those that have subscribed to threads/forums as well)

We had a similar thing and it ended up being a problem with the host's DNS routing affecting the email system (so they said).

Either way, switching off email notification worked a treat.

(The problem was later fixed at the host and all seems ok now)

Interesting, you could be right - a thread I just replied to went through instantly, and was one that people would unlikely have subscribed to. Will do more tests...

yep, we found any "new" threads made worked fine too.
