  • UBB 6.2 Importer Problem

I just purchased vBulletin yesterday and was looking forward to migrating to vBulletin. My current system in UBB 6.2.1.1. I have about 4000 registered users and many more unregistered posts. There are over 171,000 posts in 22,000 threads.
However, running the importer I found these problems.

    1. While importing posts, a few time I will 'CGI did not return a header' error. However on clicking the 'browser back' button I was able to restart at that point and it completed.

    2. While updating post counts for users I often received 'maximum execution time error'. I reduced the number of users to updated from 50 to 5 and then it worked although it took about 2.5 hrs to update 4000 members.

    3. When importing private messages many messages have single quote (') like in "don't", and obviously it gave sql error and failed to import. I edited those posts in .cgi file and made them double ('') and then it worked. But, I had to do that for quite a few messages.

4.After it finished everything, the board seemed to work. However my old colors and styles are not showing up. And All the posts have bunch of codes like <br /> and <img border="0" title="" alt="[Frown]" src="frown.gif" /> and things like that.

This is going to look awful. Is there anyway to clean this up and make the import process little more accurate. At this moment if I can just clean up all the quotes and substitue smilies, I will be happy.

Hopefully JameUS (the script author) will respond soon. Meanwhile you might want to submit a support request at:

Any Idea when an updated importer might be available?

Sorry, I don't know. Did you fill out the support request?

Murad, like you I've been trying to import for a while now. If the final, error-free version isn't released before Threads 6 comes out (currently also in beta) then I'm going with Threads.

            Hi,

I have sent you a message Murad via the support system - once I have your reply I will be able to very quickly fix the last issue, which is seemingly the most important for the time being.

The issue stems from Infopop changing the HTML used to display smilies in a recent version which our importer did not account for - while we caught most of the changes in the newer versions (ie 6.2 and above) we appeared to miss this one out.

Anyone else who is receiving the same problem will also be given an updated file to solve the issue.

Please accept my apologies for the delay and I really am doing my best to get this issue sorted for you.

            Thanks for your patience.

            Regards,

Thank you James for your quick response. I have responded to your questions via email.

I just noticed that the problem appears only in more recent posts in ubb (posts made before 6.2 or 6.1 version are fine).

Ubb is converting ubb code (ones with square bracket to angled brackets) before storing them in 6.2 version. It is also converting smilies to img code before storing.

I think it may be possible to dump the databsae to an SQL file after conversion, which is a plain text file, and doing a textual search and replace for these codes (if the SQL file is not too big). Then the database can be restored with the changed dump file.

Does anyone know What this error mean:

                CGI Error
The specified CGI application misbehaved by not returning a complete set of HTTP headers. The headers it did return are:
I get this while importing threads & posts in ubb6 importer.
