  • Server Loads

I need some help. I am one of the administrators for a rather popular gaming website. We currently run vB 2.01. We haven't upgraded due to how many hacks we have installed. Our site mainly consists of our forums. With over 12,000 users and 800,000 posts (after deleting 2 million) and 7.6 million views a month, we have a major issue with server load.

Currently, for each httpd process we run a mysqld process is spawned. Each httpd process also uses 5-15% of the CPU at any given moment. Obviously, this is taking its toll. We are running on RH 7 with the latest updates of apache, mysql, php and kernel.

Basically, I was hoping someone could shed some light on these issues and provide some information on ways to correct some problems or at least optimize vB. If we can't find anything, we may have to switch forums which is a process I really don't want to go through. Thank you in advance.

You should check out the server configuration forum. You shouldn't have to load a mysqld process for every instance of Apache. and that could be causing your biggest problem right there.

Also you will need to post some information about your server to allow anyone to help you. You can start with the exact versions and configuration as well as extras compiled in with Apache, PHP and MySQL.

The first step would be to eliminate any modules you are not using and don't plan on using from either the Apache or PHP installs to lower their memory requirements.
