  • Thread and post count

We recently purged some older threads out of our message board, when we did, we lost close to 50,000 thread counts on our board, which is very important to us. Our registered members also lost a lot of post counts.

How can we add like 50,000 to the current thread count and add numbers to older members?

And how do you update the forums after you purge old threads with out losing posts and thread counts?

    Thanks

Thread counts will drop if you prune for the simple fact that there are less threads. You can hack index.php & forumdisplay.php to "fudge" the numbers but there is no way to avoid a dropping thread count if you prune.

As to post counts, don't run Update Post Counts as it states in the warning.

Its kind of silly to keep a post/thread count if you cant keep the numbers you accumilated from day one, right? Whats the point then? iTS LKE, LETS CLEAN OUT THE OLD THREADS IN ARCHIVE BUT IF YOU DO, ALL THOSE POSTS AND THREADS, ACORDING TO vb NEVER EXISTED.

Yes, according to vB they never existed. I don't think you will find any forum that does what you want by default. As I also said, there is no real reason to prune - vB can handle millions of posts with no problems. If you want to have a high number of threads, don't delete them. If you delete them then they aren't there so why should they be reflected in the number of threads on the board? The number is "how many threads there are here" not "how many threads we've ever had".

And as I said with post counts, they *will not* drop unless you run Update Post Counts which has a big warning on it telling you not to run it if you have pruned for this exact reason. There is *no reason* to run it unless you want to start your forum over without deleting your users.
