closing a thread

You have to login to your forum as an administrator.

Then you can surf to the thread, and at the bottom of the page, there is a little drop down menu which has the admin options.
One of the options is to close a thread.

When you are logged in as Admin or a Moderator for that forum, you will see an 'Admin Options' box at the bottom of the page. The options are there.

What version are you running? Have you installed any hacks? What's the URL to your forums?

Revert your forumdisplay and forumdisplay_adminoptions and showthread and showthread_adminoptions templates back to their originals.

That's the Admin Options from the forumdisplay page. When you go to the thread you'll see a different set of options, including the one to Open/Close a thread.

Thread > Admin Options

Click on a conversation, a thread that is, and scroll down to the bottom, it will have a drop down menu box like this one on the bottom right. Ofcourse, you can only see this as a Admin/SuperMod/Moderator if the "$adminoptions" is set in the showthread template.
