  • Get rid of COPPA

How do I get rid of everything COPPA related? Can I just delete all COPPA related templates and files?

  • #2
Just turn it off in Options in the Admin CP... No need to delete anything.....

Really, if you run a site in the US you have to have it on....

Assuming your site is accessed by US-based youth (which is almost impossible to avoid unless it is in a foreign language) you are required by law to leave COPPA on and verify under-13-year-old applicants' information as well as obtaining parents' permission before allowing them to be a fully registered member.

Um, okay, what if the owner of the vbulletin site is under 13 ? ^_^

Well for starters your parent(s) would have to be involved in the hosting contract since you must be 18 for a legally-binding contract.

But to the issue of COPPA, it's the information you are collecting from the user. Since you can't collect information from yourself (at least not in this sense) it doesn't have any bearing on you owning the site. However you are still responsible for your site complying with COPPA with respect to the information you gather from others.
