How would I make "levels" ?

As with most sites.. I am thinking of going to a "donations" or "paid membership" style of setup.. My question is this..


Is there a way that I could make certain functions only available to specified user groups.. IE:

User group A: no perks... except posting..

User Group B:

Private Messaging, Style changes, Avatars, etc...

Once a user registered.. and "donated" they could be changed to a user group that offered a "full version" of the site..

Any ideas..?

There's currently no way to do that without hacking. There's been some talk of this kind of thing at the hacks site - vbulletin.org. The only thing I know of for sure is that there is a released hack that recognizes the members who've donated. I think it's called 'Mark as contributor'.
