    nope, just a gzip compatible web browser - which IE and Netscape are... not sure about Opera etc

    hostrocket did have mod_gzip but they removed it last time i heard from their servers... not sure if they put it back... you'd have to ask them

    gzip has compression levels 1 to 9, where 9 is the highest and it can be changed in vB admin panel -> vBulletin options -> http and headers area

    but gzip compression is optimal at level 1, any higher only consumes more cpu resources without any or little gain in reducation/compression of page size

    yes turn it on if your host supports it and has php compilied with zlib support

    what it does is compresses text on your pages on the fly and reduces bandwidth transfers and speeds up loading of your web page - your visitors don't notice the difference except for faster page loading times

    i.e. i had a 260kb text intensive page compressed to just 16kb

    also do not set gzip in vB admin panel any higher than 1
