    Problems with Moderating New Members

With the implementation of the encryption of passwords when a new member signs up, and we have the forum in moderation of new members, the new member gets an email welcoming to our forum with their username and password, etc.

The problem is that they get emailed their username
and the encrypted password. Then when they try to use the encrypted password to access the forum with it does not work. They have to use the password that they signed up with. Now that isn't a problem but the email that they get has tells them to use the encrypted password so lots of confusion. Is there anyway around this?

Also, if you are in the control panel and you enter a wrong password you get a password error message but I cannot tell which template it is using. Supposidly it is using the standerrormessage and the email_wrongpassword template. It is using something else instead and I cannot figure out what I need to be looking for. The problem is that the url to return you to the editpassword looks for this in the admin directory and it is not there but in the main directory instead.

    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Parker

Make sure you revert your email_validated template to fix the first problem.

I haven't heard of the second problem - in any case I'm quite sure it's not using an email_xxx template for display. Maybe error_wrongpassword?

When you say revert the email_validated template are you talking about using the original template or what? I am using the original template and $username works just fine but $password sends the encrypted password to the member. It is this encrypted password that doesn't work when they try to use it.

I will cover the other area when I get the above working ok.

        Thanks,

          Remove the

          Password: $password

line from email_validated and replace it with

If you have forgotten your password, please visit $bburl/member.php?action=lostpw

How that got missed I don't know...

Glad to hear it wasn't something that I did.

The other problem is with putting the wrong password in with the control panel. The admin/index.php file looks for the login routine in the member.php file and tries to use the error_wrongpassword template. But with no global.php file to go by it returns the following:

The problem is that it is using the default background color and layout that is standard with vBulletin instead of the layout that I have on my forum. In addition to get the message to change I had to go into the database and change it there. When I changed the template for the error_wrongpassword template it would show up corrected in the traditional forum password errors but not in the admin password error.

I changed the text in the error message in the template as it was pointing to the message.php file that in the admin mode was pointing to a file that didn't exist.

Just something else to look into.

            Thanks,
            Parker
