    total posts for member off

I have a member who claims that her total post number is off by 60. (my members do contests based on total posts, so it matters to her). I ran Update Users Info, Update Forums Info, Update Thread Info to no avail. She said she just LOST 60 posts.

So, I added 60 posts to her profile. fixed problem. NO.

A week later, she says she lost 60 posts. ( I figure this is the system correcting my added error).

Is there some other way that she lost 60 posts in her post total?

p.s. this could be happening to others, but they just aren't as hung up on it....

(my host moved MYSQL just before she complained about this problem--could this have introduced this problem? Futurequest.net)

    Thanks!

She can only lose posts if you delete a thread (or posts) in which she has posted. Could that have happened or perhaps she is looking to gain free posts?

If you can, run this query:
      Code:
SELECT COUNT(*) AS posts FROM post WHERE userid='xx'
(replace xx with her user ID)
      and see what it returns.

That number would be more or less correct if you have not ever modified her post count manually.

I had another member tell me she just lost about 30 posts.

I think I figured it out: could it be that when a thread is deleted, vB adjusts the post totals for the members who participated in that thread (effectively taking away posts from thier total?)

If this is it, is there some way around this, as my members depend on their post totals to win contests, yet my moderators like to delete old threads that have been closed for over a week. (mostly these are random threads that act a bit like chat. They close them when they get too big, and start a new one)

          Help?

Yes this is exactly what happens. The only 'fix' I'm aware of requires a hack. Check over at vbulleting.org for this hack.

              Hi, first time caller!

I've just taken over the webmaster role of www.ten-tenths.com which was run very successfully by Craig Antil previously. I too have this problem of users seeming to 'lose' posts, but I don't think it can be as a result of threads getting deleted, as we have a (generally) well-behaved community and don't have to pull threads more than about once a month. That should have put the kiss of death on it

Is there anything else that may be causing this problem anyone can think of please? Any help gratefully appreciated and received

              Cheers,
              Michael
