How can I see the IP Address of a user / guest which is behind a proxy server?

I couldn't find it anywhere in vB.

Admin CP -> Change options -> IP Logging Options -> Log IP Addresses?

Nope, I can see all the IP's but if a user or guest uses a proxy server I can't see his original IP Address. The proxy gives a extra http header with the originating ip address so where can I see it in vB or is this not build in vB (yet?)

As far as I know, proxies (at least the 'anonymous' servers) are designed to hide the true IP address. Consequently I don't know of any way to find this information.

Hmm, I was just looking at the PHP Manual and I find some interesting things about 'X-FORWARDED-FOR' that directive will contain the users ipaddress if the user uses a proxy server. Isn't it a good idea to built this into vB or is a hack available or something ?

This is a 10 year old thread, it's no surprise the links don't work anymore.

You can't get the IP address of a user using an anonymous proxy, and anyone causing trouble is going to be using an anonymous proxy- that is the point of the proxy.

Your option is to block the entire proxy.
