Create New User Field With Drop Down Menu?

Is it possible to create a new user field with choices in a drop down box?

So say I wanted to add, "What state do you live in?" .. I could have all 50 states in a drop down?

(Does this involve a hack as well as creating a new field?)

There is a hack that allows you to create select boxes for your customer user fields in the Release forum.
