  • Convert ubb to vb on a new webhost.

    Hi,

I need some advice on this.

I have another site running a large ubb.
** I do not have Mysql on that server.

The import scripts work on the basis that you install vb in the same server as the ubb.

I want to transfer that site to another webhost and replace the ubb with a new vb.

How do i export all my data to the vb on the new server? Is it possible to import from another server?

Anyone know how to transfer ubb to a new server?

transferring UBB to new server =

if there is any way you can get mysql and php working on your old server so you can do the conversion on your current server i would highly recommend it. transferring vB between servers is a lot easier.

You could do what I did - tar/gzip all your UBB CGI and Non-CGI files and transfer them the the new server. Then just run the import from the files on the new server.

I thought the old server doesn't have mySQL running.

Ya, the old server doesn't have mySQL running.

Is it safe to tar/gzip all the UBB CGI and Non-CGI files and transfer them the the new server? Will this process chmod the files correctly?

Thanks for the replies. This is a beautiful community of intelligent people.

i don't think so, you would need to chmod the files again after moving them to the new server.
