custom titles for moderators only?

my goal: to have custom titles for moderators only. i would like "moderator" to appear under our moderators' names, but i do not want general registered users to have titles. is this possible?

i thought this option might appear under user groups, but i can't find it there.

and under the "custom titles" section of the CP i think it only allows you to turn on custom titles for all users, not by a specific user group.

any suggestions?

Set "Allow Mods/Admins to Change titles" to Yes, set "Enable Custom User titles?" to Yes, and set the values of "Number of posts a user must have before they can use custom titles" or "Number of days a user must be registered before they can use custom titles" to very high.

This is contradictory. A custom user title is when someone is able to specify their own title. You appear to want all of your moderators to have the *same* title - "moderator".

To do what I assume you want (the only people who have user titles are moderators), go to User Titles > Modify and click "remove" next to each one. Then go to User groups & Permissions > Modify and click [edit] next to the Moderators group. For "user status" put "moderator" in the box and click Save Changes.

thank you both for the quick replies.

i tried chen's suggestion, it seemed to make a lot of sense, but it didn't work. i put 20,000 posts in the minimum number of posts required field, set my personal number of posts to 20,001, and the title moderator didn't appear. (changed the other options as well.)

if i'm not trying your patience, here's what i really need:

2 people to show as "moderator"
2 people to show as "administrator"
8 people to show as "staff"

taking tubedogg's suggestion then, i guess i would create usergroups for each of the categories mentioned above, and then change their user status. right?

but, when i went to user titles to modify, there weren't any. so i imagine i would leave it alone and not create any?

err, does this make sense?

OK let me make sure I understand you.

You do not want regular users to have *any* user title - they should just have a blank where the user title normally is.
You want three different sets of people to have three different titles, respectively.

Should be easy enough - two of your sets are already built-in. the Administrator and Moderator groups should already exist and should already have "Administrator" and "Moderator" as their default titles. The staff group you would have to create. This is also easy enough - go to Usergroups & Permissions > Add and set the permissions for the Staff group, giving them a "user status" of "staff". Move the 8 users to this group and then go to Update Counters > Update Users. It should all be done now.

Yes, but in the time it takes to create and set up a new user group, wouldn't it take less time to just manually go and change the people's titles manually in their profile field from the AdminCP?

Not really. It takes maybe 30 seconds to create a new group, whereas it would take longer to find a user, hit [edit], change their title, save, find the next user...etc. Plus in the long run if additional users were to be given this in the future it would be a toss-up in terms of time (editing their title vs. changing their usergroup).
