    Moving Servers (database stays)

Maybe this is just easy or not possible , i dont know...but...

I'm moving to a new server. But i need 2 keep my old mysql database on my old domain. So like i have now the board installed @ hello.com and i want 2 move my board 2 welcome.com but i want that welcome.com uses the vb mysql datbase of hello.com. hehe.

Is that possible? And so yes, what to do? installing vb at welcome.com and only changing the config.php to the details of hello.com?

    Any help appreciated, thnx.

You can set the servername in your config.php to:

// hostname or ip of server
        $servername="hello.com";

But whether this works or not is entirely dependent on whether your hello.com web host aloows outside connections to internal databases.

thnx for the reply, and yes that was the way that i wanted to do. But is it just that simple that i upload those vb files to welcome.com with the changed config.php to that hello.com database and that the board works? No other actions to take?

Yes, but don't forget to change the address of the board in the Change Options page.

Yes, but as I said this is entirely dependent on whether your host at hello.com accepts outside connections to internal databases. Frankly I doubt that's the case, but you'll have to ask them. If they do allow it, it's also possible you need to use an IP address rather than 'hello.com'. You'll need to ask them for this too.

                  New question

Those #$%%$# still didnt emailed me back.

I received now a database from welcome.com and i just want 2 move the board and also the database, like the same process of http://www.vbulletin.com/manual/movingservers.html because i cant wait for those @#$#.

                  My question is this:
Step Three - Install vBulletin on new server creating a dummy database (won't be used - you can delete later)

(I figure you know how to do that!)
Step Four - Restore to new server

                  telnet into machine
create new database on the mysql (either via phpMyAdmin or telnet)
from the root, type mysql -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD newdbname < /path/to/dump.sql
this takes a couple of minutes depending on your database size, but you can track the progress either by FTP (checking the /mysql/data/newdbname and see the files appearing) or by phpMyAdmin (you should see the files appearing there)
when it is completed, it will bring you back to the prompt

I have only 1 database 2 use. So when i did "step three" and installed on the database lesane. Now i want 2 do step 4 and i type in phpmyadmin mysql -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD newdbname < /path/to/dump.sql. I already moved the dump.sql to that new host (welcome.com) and i fill in by "newdbname" lesane because i cant make any new databases. I only have 1 database 2 use. So i use this:

mysql -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD lesane < /path/to/dump.sql

But that dont works i think because the database lesane already exist but i cant make a new one, i only have 1 database 2 use. So is there a other way 2 put dump.sql into the database lesane (where vb is currently installed).

                  Thanks again.

What exactly happens when you say it 'doesn't work'? Also, make sure you are using the exact same database name that appears in phpMyAdmin. In many instances the system will append the user name to it. For instance:

                      username_lesane

Substitituing your login name for 'username' of course.

                        This is what it says:

                        mysql -uusername_lesane -pxxxxx username_lesane < /home/sites/site27/web/aadmin/lesanedb.sql

MySQL retourneerde: You have an error in your SQL syntax near 'mysql -uusername_lesane -pxxxxx username_lesane < /home/sites/site27/web/aadmin/le' at line 1

I am sure i use the exact same database.

I can't believe that the username for your database is:

                          username_lesane

                          ...and the database is called:

                          username_lesane

(By the way, if that's your real db password, you should edit it out of your post quickly!)
