  • Avatar issues.

    This one doesn't seem to be database related, but who knows.

    Avatars only half work. I can upload a set of on-site avatars for people to select, but when it comes to uploading a custom avatar, I get a message saying that the avatar isn't a valid GIF or JPEG file and to please try again (which doesn't help).

    I know it's not just my image. Someone else reported the same problem and the image I'm trying to use is the one I'm using here... so obviously it's not corrupt or anything.

    Here's the obligatory server info:

    Boards: http://www.zantetsuken.com/forums/index.php
    PHP: Version 4.0.3
    MySQL: 3.22.32
    OS: Unix
    Apache: Version 1.3.2 (I think)

    Any help would be greatly appreciated.

    Please enter your vB license info into your user profile. See my sig for details. Thanks.

      Alright, I updated my profile. Sorry about that.

        Try both a non-image and image attachment -- do either work?

          Nope.

          The image shows up as a red X, and the non-image (a text file) came up as blank.

            <?php
            phpinfo();
            ?>

            Put that in a test.php file on your site and paste the URL here.

                safe_mode's on. That's the problem (it and open_basedir severly limit uploading capabilities).

                Try turning on the safe mode upload options in vB's CP (both the yes/no switch and the directory) and see if that helps.

                  Well...

                  Enabling safe mode upload didn't seem to help (maybe I didn't put the directory in the right place)... and turning on Image Size Checking failure seemed to help, but the custom avatar just comes up as a broken image.
