  • Refreshing and Gzip

    Hi,
I'v just enabled gzip output for php files in my W2000 + IIS5 server, with the procedure described here in technet thx to Thomas P.
Now when I go on my board http://www.swzone.it/forum/index.php and browse by link everithing works, if I go back or refresh, the page result damaged, without logo.
I need some help plz I don't know where I be at one's wits' ends and I don't want to stop gzip compression.
    Thx

This is a known bug in IEs cache. Opera and NetScape does not have this problem. Install one of them, and you will see.
You can also turn off HTTP 1.1 in IE, but since HTTP Compression (GZip) is part of the HTTP 1.1 protocol, this will also disable the compression for the client in question.

The solutions are as follows.... (pick one)
    - Kick M$ in the nuts so they fix this old and known bug (it's been around at least since 5.0, the eariest I've tried).
    - Use something other than IE if you find this bug so annoying.
    - Disable HTTP 1.1 on your IE (will probably slow down general surfing for most surfers with slow connections)
    - Disable GZip compression on the server.

This is NOT a vBulletin spesific problem. You will get the same result with any HTTP Compressed page.

    Hope this helps

This is interesting. I have a problem with your forums too but I do not have any problems with my forums. I also have gzip compression enabled.

Then I suggest you install Snitz (a free competing BB-system based on ASP) and turn on HTTP compression for that as well. And then you tell us what results you get. (Spoiler: The exact same problem. http://forum.snitz.com/forum/topic.a...TOPIC_ID=12096 )...

Rostor, have you changed any source files or any templates?

The reason I ask is that my board, which is gzip compressed, works fine. Perhaps you made some modifications that influenced how the pages are compressed.

                Hi MiF,
I'v just translated the templates in italian, but for be sure that I don't make mistakes yesterday I'v tryed vb with his original templates and nothing changed.
Always the same error in the header comes out.

Rostor, you must restore the text in the footer template that reads
                  Powered by: vBulletin Version 2.0.3
Copyright ©2000, 2001, Jelsoft Enterprises Limited.
unless you have specifically paid for the licence that allows you to remove the copyright text.

Please do this as soon as possible to avoid breaking the vBulletin licence agreement.

                    Done !!!
Sorry, I was not alone during the translation of all the templates so one of my Staff Memember has removed it without I realized his mistake.

Thanks for your swift attention, Rostor.

I have done some browsing of your boards, and I have to say that I can't reproduce your problem using IE 6, but I'll give it a go with some other browsers shortly.

I use DSL and IE 6 and I saw the problem on your board. No problem on mine though.

Don't know if this would make a difference but I do not have "send headers" option set. Try disabling it if you have it set.

I'v tryed all the possible combination of:
Add Standard headers & Add No-cache headers
                            but nothing change.
