I noticed when I prune messages, the member post count reverts back to a lower number. Should it not remain the same whether or not a message is deleted????

I deleted an induval message? It is a test member, I made up a name and posted two messages. I then went back as admin, and deleted the two posts, and their profile reflected they had no messages posted. I guess I could post two more messages then mass prune them and see what happens.....Comment

I just did a mass prune on just the user name, and the post count remained the same. If this is a design feature, I take my hat off to you, it is outstanding, if not, we need to fix it....LOLI might add, I deleted the first two posts from the control panel, and then posted two new ones and mass pruned those from the admin options in the forums. Does that have anything to do with anything?
After 3 months of testing, I am going to import my ubb tommorow. They are just over 300 megs in size, and the members would castrate me if their post count was effected. I have some members with over 1,500 posts....LOLLast edited by clearchanel; Fri 17 Aug '01, 2:15pm.Comment

Yes, this is a design feature - when you delete an individual post it will decrement the poster's post count by one, whereas if you mass-prune threads, the posters' counters will remain constant
This is because we assume that a single post being deleted will be an act of moderation, while a whole load of threads being pruned is an act of maintenance (albeit not an entirely necessary one... many vB boards never prune old threads, as there isn't a massive performance benefit in doing so)

Then I slute you sir....great job.... I mass prune to save server space, does not keeping old message use a considerable amount of space, and count towards your 5 gigs of storage?Comment

You will find that 5Gigs of storage will hold several million posts... I really wouldn't worry about it
After you've done your import, compare the total size of all your UBB posts with the size of the vBulletin database... I think you'll be rather pleasantly surprisedComment

I created a hidden forum I call the reycle bin. I move those posts that are truly troublesome and those I may need in the future to the recycle bin. That keeps them out of the members view, and they are no longer able to respond to them.
We don't delete many posts at all. My concern was with the mass prune. I base the member status on a persons willingness to contribute. (I run a support forum so to speak)
I will post my next question about archiving in the how do I forum...LOL
Thanks again, you all have really taken the support up quite a few notches. And I for one appericate that.Comment

by In OmnibusI have one member whose posts are being counted twice in the post count. She has twice as many posts as the site has in total. This is only occurring with one member.
