I saw this feature on another board and was wondering whether or not it actually comes with the vB or whether I will have to install a hack for this feature.

At the top this forum's posts list, it shows sub forums that are not listed in the main forums list.

Yes Subforums is a standard feature. You can see it in use on these forums in the "Code Hacks" board.
