what causes this to happen?

I don't know what causes this to happen, but I see it on every vbb I visit (the attached screenshot is taken from this forum)..

Sometimes the 'report this post to a moderator' and 'ip logged' don't stay at the bottom of the posts.. it seems to happen most when ppl don't type a long enough post..

Anyway I was just curious as to what causes this to happen

This is because the only break between the post and that line is a simple <p> (paragraph) tag. One cell has to be stretched vertically -- usually it's the left, but this time it's the right.

This could be worked around by adding another table, but I definately wouldn't recommend that -- we have enough already
