The forums are at http://www.seemaxrun.fourfourzero.net/forum

I'm running vbulletin 2.0.1 (is that right?, numbers make me crosseyed, it's the latest, at any rate)

Regular php, I don't know about mysql version or apache webserver version, my host is hostfinity if that helps.

The clock won't adjust. I've set it to PST aka GMT minus 8, and I'm getting East Coast times on the forum display. Is there a fix for this?

As long as I'm here, forum thread displays on internet explorer (I'm on 5.0) are weird, you can see at http://seemaxrun.fourfourzero.net/fo...php?forumid=11 and I don't know what exactly to do to fix that extended border on the side of the table display.

It doesn't do that on Netscape.

And -- I can't assign default titles to unregistered users, nothing I try takes effect, they just keep getting labeled "Guest" -- any idea what is up with that or how to change that?

My license number etc. is in my profile, I've been reading forums to see if there are any answers around here already and am wearing out on "please post your license number" answers. (wry grimace)

Thanks.

In your control panel, make sure you have the timezone set to the server's time. Then make sure your profile is set correctly. Adjust your CP's timezone option until you get the correct time.

Yes, this will be changing in future versions to be easier.

Seems to look ok here (IE 5.5, Win98)

This is the one case that won't work via the CP -- it's hard coded into showthread.php. Try searching for "Guest" (I believe that should be the only instance).

Well, if more people had them entered...

Oh whew changing code on the guests is easy, thank you.

The clock's going to be more of a pain but I can work with that.

Thank you very much.

Also, is this only going to show for registered users?

new post indicators, inner borders, and showthread

I meant the time display I guess unregistered users can't set that but that clock is close enough now here is a problem though --

Unregistered users cannot mark the forum read. They can hit the link "mark all forums read" and the board responds with "new post indicators will now be off" but the new post indicators do not go off. Is there a fix for this?

I am still fighting with the right inner border on the display page too. It goes up to a couple hundred pixels wide (it is set to 1 gadzooks) unless a topic title is long and forces it to the right margin. I'm on a Mac using I.E. 5.0 and it doesn't happen on netscape 4.7 (my netscape check program is getting old) I am guessing maybe it is a Mac thing or I.E. 5.0. thing if it is not showing up for you on 5.6 on a PC?

Except -- I've checked out other sites that use vb and this wider inside border doesn't appear on their display pages at all hmm.

Know anyone on a Mac on I.E. 5.0 who could maybe look at this?

An example is at:

http://seemaxrun.fourfourzero.net/fo...php?forumid=10

Also, on the show thread page, there is no header. I looked at the code and wondered if I can paste in the header from the display page but I am kind of afraid to touch it in case I do something wrong (those curly brackets always get me). Is it supposed to have no header? It seems to say no header. Is there an easy fix for that to bring the header over from the other pages or insert a new one?

An example is at:

http://seemaxrun.fourfourzero.net/fo...hp?threadid=40

(Thank you very much for all the help you are my cyber angel of mercy.)

It should work. If it doesn't, there might be some sort of cookie corruption. Have you changed your cookie domain/path?

Revert your showthread template and see if it comes back -- it should be there.

•I left cookie domain blank

•I left path "/"

•Marking things "read" is working for registered users, just not unregistered. Should I put the forum domain in there and see if that fixes it?

Revert your showthread template and see if it comes back -- it should be there.
•I reloaded the original showthread document and it did not make a difference. (I have back up copies against disaster which is what saves my tail every time I break something beyond fixing, wry smile.)

•This is the header and I'm not good enough yet to decipher the problem without messing around for days and days going forward and back breaking things and fixing them again what looks off here to you? I am looking at "no header=1" right off and thinking that could be it and then wondering about the "removed from pre-caching" thing but I am an idiot savant on the web this is all guessing.

<snip showthread.php>

•I stuck a lot in there because I just don't know what to leave off. Help?

The mark all forums as read thing should work -- I know it worked when I wrote it at least. You may wish to try manually deleting your cookies to see if that helps.

As for showthread, keep in mind I was refering to the showthread *template* not the file showthread.php -- and there is always a backup version in the database.

Does your showthread template reference $header?

cookies and markers and that dratted template thing

You know the unregistered user here that is checking this stuff is me and since I have five different names on the board, some admins, some just registered users, and some unregistered, in order to test stuff, maybe it's my cookies that are messing up and regular unregistered users are not having the problem. I will ask one of the test bunnies to run through and see if they have the same marker problem.

Re the template, the option I have in templates for the show thread page is "edit original" and I am sort of afraid to touch that.

There is a header reference on the page itself it is:

{
$noheader=1;
}

Which I am thinking is telling the document not to show a header? What should it say to show the header?

There's an if...else() construct around that...it's only if a certain condition exists that noheader is activated.

At any rate that doesn't affect the header template being displayed...it's talking about HTTP headers.

Is this it? This is what I've got:

if ( isset($goto) and ($goto=='lastpost' or $goto=='newpost')) {
$noheader=1;
}

PS: marking individual forums read?

Is there a way to mark individual forums read instead of the whole forum?

Right now the only option I've got is on the main page marking all forums read and it's a lot simpler if I can mark them off as I go through them that way I don't miss people coming in behind me in forums I already ran through.

Thanks.

We use a global lastactivity time, so you can't mark a forum read at this time.

Can you ensure your showthread template has $header near the top? Do you have anything in your phpinclude template?

That's not in there, just some stuff about $headinclude and java script, and the head just has the title of the board and the title of the thread in there.

This is what the template opens with:

<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN">
<html>
<head><title>$bbtitle - $thread[title]</title>
$headinclude
<script language="javascript" type="text/javascript">

And then some functions and window open stuff, end script and it goes to breadcrumb stuff.

If I plug $header into the head there will that do it?

(I'm scared of messing with the templates, I guess they can all be reverted though, mostly I just write this stuff into pages by hand.)

Also, I am not finding a "phpinclude" template in a search.
