Organizing Smilies

Is there any way to organize my smilies (I have nearly 170) so that I can pick the ones that show up at the top in the little box by the message input box and which ones end up at the very end? I have studied the list and cannot figure out how they are organized -- if I could just figure that out, I could name my smilies accordingly.

They are ordered by the way the come up in a simple select statement. This is usually the order they are entered into the database (not by smilieid).

If you go into the code (admin/functions.php) and find this line:

$smilies = $DB_site->query("SELECT title, smilietext, smiliepath FROM smilie"); 

You can change it to:

$smilies = $DB_site->query("SELECT title, smilietext, smiliepath FROM smilie ORDER BY smilieid"); 

to order them by their ID number. You could then rearrange them by their ID number using a tool such as PHPMyAdmin (though this defeats the purpose of a Auto_increment field).

If you changed it to:

$smilies = $DB_site->query("SELECT title, smilietext, smiliepath FROM smilie ORDER BY title"); 

You could order them alphabetically (A-Z) by title.

doesn't seem to work

OK -- Gave it a try. I found 2 occurances of the code example in the functions PHP and changed them both to order by title. It does change their order on my admin panel and the little table next to the text input box, BUT it didn't affect the order on the pop up when people click on the "get more smilies" link. Is there another line I need to change to make the pop-up also order by title?

Is there a way to go into the MySQL database and change the order reference number so that we can change the order of smilies on the first reply page???

Hi Everyone...

I checked in MyPHPAdmin, and you can alter the smilie order by changing the values in the smilie table....

I am going to cross my fingers and try to change the "smilieid" values...

That didn't work...

Even though I COULD change the smilieid# (from 1 to 35, for example), the MySQL database still lists them in the order that the smilies were entered, and my VB 2.3.4 forum still lists them in the order they are listed in the smilie database table.

In vB2 this requires hacking. Or you could delete all the current smilies and reupload them in the order you want them to be displayed.

I wish there were an easier way than having to delete and reinstall about 300 smilies...

Actually....

I see that Wayne posted an option whereby we can rearrange the icons by smilieid, which I can then reorder by changing the ID numbers...

I will try that and see if it works...
