Using forum mods/admin status as a basis for security elsewhere

Hi.

Just wondering if anyone has done this ?

ie - on your sites admin panel, instead of using htaccess (as i do), using vBulletin's user logging in / sessions / user table to admit only moderators and administrators or whatever.

I would be interested in checking it out if anyones done it, if not i might do it my self at some point
