  • Two looks, one VB, depends on where you enter?

Is there any way to have your VB colors/graphics and such....depend on where the visitor clicked in from?

I'm not sure how to explain this...let me give you an example.

I have one message board but two domains. Each domain is separate, containing different content and different visitors. However, because of the nature of both of the sites, they overlap in a sense.

Currently, I have a the entire VB set up to look like my main, bigger domain. However, I have two forums that really belong to the smaller domain. But they need to remain together....to be able to jump forums from one topic to another...is great.

Is there anyway to create these two forums to appear together (a category) in color and graphics from the smaller domain...and remain with these graphics if the member/visitor clicked into the forums from this smaller domain? (Like cookied graphics??)

I'm not sure how to ask because I'm not techie... Its not a matter of not wanting two boards, I dont. The members need the info and forum jumping because the topic is related. But I'd like these two forums to more closely resemble the smaller domain IF the member clicked through from there and only visit there.

Does this make sense or am I rambling too much? If so, its the old lady syndrome.

If I understand what you want, just link to
    mysite.com/forums/index.php?styleid=x
where x is the ID of the style you want to be applied. It's then stored in a cookie so that style stays with them.

      So...

If I want the link to be:

      http://mydomainblabla.com/vb2/forumd...s=&forumid=111

(to take the visitor to the category with several forums to select from...instead of the forum home page...)

I can add the styleId on the end? I am using style 14 (based on a mouseover to the style in the control panel)
?styleid=14 to the end of this link?
      http://mydomainblabla.com/vb2/forumd...111?styleid=14

      ??

I think what you are trying to acheive is similar to http://sitepointforums.com/community

If you use the styleid=X at the end of an URL it will force that style for every part of your forums until the person changes it in the control panel.

In the Community Construction Zone, I force the style based on the forum. If you look at the following thread where you posted a similar question, you will see that I went back and outlined what I did. If you need more help just ask.

Thanks Wayne, I added to that thread over there with more specific needs that I have for the two styles and the two domains...

          Thanks!
