Oops I got it, the key is that mysqldump is a separate binary

    Thanks for the speedy help!

It's a W2K server. So I tried that command from the mysql prompt, and it's telling me I have an error in my syntax. Would the syntax be any different in this situation?

It's PHP. I would suggest you Telnet into your server and use this command to make a backup:

mysqldump -uUSERNAME -pPASSWORD DATABASENAME > /home/sitename/file.sql

    started a topic Backup timeout

    Backup timeout

When attempting to backup data to file on server, after about 2 mins I get the following:

    CGI Timeout
The specified CGI application exceeded the allowed time for processing. The server has deleted the process.

What's timing out, php, or mysql? Where would I look to increase this timeout setting, as it is backing up (the file is growing, seems to die when it's around 24MB).
