  • Question...-

    If you look at www.sitepointforums.com I would like to know how to add those icons onto the main page for each forum that do: Read new posts since last visit, Create a new thread topic in this forum, and Subscribe to forum.

    Also, how do you move the PM stuff to the top?

    Thanks!

      Okay, I understand now how to add in the seach functionality, but how do I add it so it is displayed on the main page? I am pretty new to all this stuff still. I guess I just dont understand how to add images and make them right aligned, add the link and hover text...

      Also, I still dont understand how to get the create new thread in the specefic forum to work and how to get how to get the subscribe to that specefic forum to work. I am thinking it is just a link...???

      Thanks...

            That's what the post I linked to explains. Well, it gives the exact template that Wayne uses at SitePoint Forums, which is what you initally pointed to as an example.

                I tried Waynes code, but the stuff still doesnt work. Nothing happens at all... It just looks normal with no changes. For instance, if I delete all of the orginal code in the template, my board is still unaffected...

                  This code contains everything you need:
                  Code:
                  <td width="35%" align="right" valign="top">
                    <a href="search2.php?action=getlatest&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="images/findnew.gif"  border="0" width="11" height="11" hspace="2" alt="Read New Posts since Last Visit"></a>
                    <a href="newthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=newthread&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="images/newthread.gif" border="0" width="11" height="11" hspace=2" alt="Create a new Thread topic in this forum"></a>
                    <a href="member2.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=addsubscription&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="images/subscribe.gif" border="0" width="13" height="11" hspace="2" alt="Subscribe to the Forum to Build a Custom SitePoint"></a>
                  </td>
                  It is simple HTML.

                          Put it in:
                          forumhome_forumbit_level2_post.

                          forumhome_forumbit_level1_post is equivalent to my "News and Announcements" forum which is not inside a category.

                            Okay, almost got it! BTW, thanks for all the help!

                            My template looks like this:

                            <tr align="center">
                            <td bgcolor="{secondaltcolor}" valign="top"><img src="{imagesfolder}/$forum[onoff].gif" border="0" alt=""></td>
                            <td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}" align="left"><a href="forumdisplay.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><normalfont><b>$forum[title]</b></normalfont></a>
                            <br><smallfont>$forum[description]</smallfont></td>
                            <td bgcolor="{secondaltcolor}"><normalfont>$forum[replycount]</normalfont></td>
                            <td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}"><normalfont>$forum[threadcount]</normalfont></td>
                            <td bgcolor="{secondaltcolor}" align="left"><smallfont>$forum[lastpostinfo]</smallfont></td>
                            <td bgcolor="{firstaltcolor}"><smallfont>$forum[moderators]</smallfont></td>
                            </tr>

                            Where do I add:

                            <!--Beginning of Custom-->
                            <td width="35%" align="right" valign="top"><a href="search2.php?action=getlatest&forumid=$forum[forumid]"> <img src="images/findnew.gif" border="0" width="11" height="11" hspace="2" alt="Read New Posts since Last Visit"></a><a href="newthread.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=newthread&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="images/newthread2.gif" border="0" width="11" height="11" hspace=2" alt="Create a new Thread topic in this forum"></a><a href="member2.php?s=$session[sessionhash]&action=addsubscription&forumid=$forum[forumid]"><img src="images/subscribe.gif" border="0" width="13" height="11" hspace="2" alt="Subscribe to this Forum"></a></td>
                            <!--End of Custon-->

                            ??? THANKS!

                              If you look at my original code, you will see that I made the second column a sub-table with that code added as a cell within the sub-table. You could add it as a cell on its own after the title and description.

                              Personally my suggestion is to copy the code into an editor like Homesite or Hotdog Pro and mess with it to get your own style going.
