  • Need to restore a db backup

    I'll spare the details, but the last three days have been a bb nightmare! I am finally back to V2.0, and thankfully, I made a forum backup right before my "learning experience"!

    Now I am trying to find where/how to re-install my backup. I have the backup .sql file here, just need to know what to do with it.

    I am new to telnet...is there any other way to restore a back up - i.e. through the admin control panel?

    Thanks for any help.

    in telnet as root user

    to backup/dump:

    mysqldump --opt -u user -p dbname > /path/to/backup.sql

    to reimport your backup.sql file

    mysql -u user -p dbname < /path/to/backup.sql

    where

    user = the mysql username
    ddname = name of forum database
    backup.sql = name of your backup/dump file

      Thank you

      Hi Eva2000/Guy -

      THANK YOU!

      As it turns out, our db was mistakenly in the root mysql of our server instead of our domain name (server admin noticed and fixed this), so this was bogging things up a bit. But once this was figured out, your instructions worked beautifully!

      Thanks

      I have copied your instructions to save as a reference.
