  • can admin/functions.php be shared across installs?

    Hi,

I've not had the time to read the code in functions.php so would appreciate a quick pointer or two from the developers...

I'm currently caching functions.php over 4 vB installations that my users run on the server. 2 of them are my boards and 2 are users boards.

In APC cache I notice that each instance of functions.php takes up about 540K

Would it make a difference if the functions.php file was put in a common location for all the versions to share?

The server is a secure server (i.e. not used for commercial hosting).

I suppose. Ever considered just trying it?

No, never considered trying it .. duh!

Don't have a development server where I could try it and I cant risk a database corruption.

Surely you know the code well enough to give a simple answer...

You could set up a local development server running on IIS or PWS or Apache, and test it on there. That's how I do all testing and development.

It would probably work but there are no guarantees - the reason you can't be given a solid yes/no answer is because it's never been tried before.
