  • upload file + security

I have seen now quit many boards and I think all of them let the user upload files.
Does anybody had same problems with trojan horses, viruses or pornography...
    Please let me know

    Thanks

I tried so hard to be perfect...
but I did make a couple of booboos. Of course, none of them are my fault :-).

That's why if I enable file uploading, I'll moderate it and check out all files before allowing them to appear on the Board.

What about boards, which are really busy? 24 hours moderation can be quit hard.
Usually the people don’t like it if the message appears hours later.

No, what I mean is that with vB 2.0 you can choose to not have the uploads display until a Moderator checks it out and decides it's all right. You don't need to check the Board 24 hours a day. Just check the 'Attachement Queue' once a day.

As for people not liking it - there's not much you can do about it. The only other alternatives are to disaable uploads entirely, or have no limits at all and take your chances.

            Thanks for this Tip!!
I didn't know this is possible.

Why would there be a problem if all that's enabled by default in uploads are images and .txt files?

I'm told that most online pornography is in the form of images. Is that not correct?

Heh, touche I was referring to the security risk though.

if someone was posting porn they could post it whether or not you had attachments - unless you have html and vbcode img turned off

Yeah I know. I used to have that problem a lot when I was running Matt Wright's WWWBoard script. I finally had to disable images altogether.
