  • Question about upgrading from UBB ........

If I decide to go for VisualBB how would I go about importing my members/posts..............I have spent a lot of time with UBB and have a lot of members / posts but I have heard a lot of good things about VBB not to mention all the problems I'm having with the damn UBB BETA's right now....................

    Thanks
    Mike

If you decide to go with vBulletin (proper name) you can import your UBB forums and users up through the 5.XX series in the control panel.

Once version 2.0 is finalized an official upgrade path for UBB 6.XX will be developed.

thats cool, when do u think that will happen? what about just importing my members? I'm really looking to get rid of UBB its starting to piss me off with all these errors.

oh yeah your prices kick ass compared to UBB, 400 dollars for UBB is absolutely rediculous.

The current 5.XX import script will import your 6.XX user database.

Yes you can use the import script for your members in UBB V6. I have done it a few times now while messing about setting up VB. I have 13,500 + members and it went quite smooth.

A word of warning though. Be sure to create an administrator account in VB first that is not in your UBB.

When i imported my members it overwrote my account and i could not get into the control panel anymore

Luckely i had not done much to VB so i just wiped it and started again.

I have also been modding the import.php with limited success. Changing it to look for the vars_forums.cgi instead of forums.cgi etc. Then the layout of the UBBV6 files is a bit different from the old ones so the script need to be altered for that.

Trouble is i have no experience with PHP whatsoever. I have a little cgi experience and i know the UBB layout reasonably well. I have nothing to lose seeing as i can not go live with VB until can import all my forums and posts.

Quite a good learning experience though

well I don't know if I'm going to do that now because I installed the trial version and everytime I typed in the link to one of the php files and just said file not found........but I linked to a gif file in that directory and it worked fine, that sucks because I really like v bulletin.

I can not really comment on the lite version as i have V2 b4 at the moment. I was playing with it on a friends server but he has it live now so i brought my liscense yesterday so i can play with it properly.

I did have the exact same problem as that though and for some reason the only way i could get it to find the file was if i cut and pasted the dir. I have no idea why as i checked double checked and checked again that the i typed it correct.

Just one of those things i guess.

On another note i can now import all my forums just got to work on the posts now as they do not work of the shelf either. Small bug still also that does not import thew catagories names. Not a big problem for the moment as it sticks all the forums int to the different catagories
