  • Different sizes of backup files

I've found a significant difference between the sizes of the database backups created by the vB 2.0 CP function and as done through the Unix command line. Here's the results:

    Code:
    bash:~/backup$ ls -l
    total 1844
    -rw-r--r-- 1 username username 779687 Mar 13 14:10 dailybackup-file.sql
    -rw-r--r-- 1 nobody nobody 1095441 Mar 13 14:11 forumbackup-03-13-2001.sql
The command line I used was:

    Code:
    mysqldump --opt --user=**** --password=**** database_name > backup_directory/dailybackup-file.sql
The CP function I chose was 'Save data to file on server'.

What accounts for the big difference in the sizes of these files?
