  • Changed kernel - Now 3 forums are missing from my site

    Hey,
The kernel was changed on a server I have a site today because it was causing problems.
After it was changed, 3 forums were missing from my forum.
They were 3 at the top, in the one category.
They aren't available in the admin panel either.
    Has this ever happened before?

I am working on phpmyadmin to get it back because it just showing a blank page at the minute.

    Thanks
    John

Any warnings in the kernel log and was mysql shut down properly prior to the system restart after the kernel upgrade?

If there was a write occuring to the forum table it may have caused some corruption thats causing MySQL to ignore those entries, try a repair.

Did a repair on all tables on the db.
yeah mysql was shutdown properly before the kernel change.

I thought the repair would fix it, but didn't make any difference.
The forums aren't showing up anywhere, even using a direct link to the forum id

Downloaded the sql dump and the forums are all there and there doesnt seem to be any problems in the database.
To make things worse, the moderator forum (Which was hidden to all usergroups apart from mods) can now be searched and a user found posts by using the view new posts link..

          I'd check the usergroup permissions.

Go check with phpmyadmin if the forumid is actually in the database.

Try uploading the original php files in ascii again and see if that helps.

What mysql database did it have before the changes, and which ones does it have now?

Maybe it went from 3 to 4, or from 4 to very old 3. Causing issues perhaps?

The usergroup permissions won't work because the forums don't show in the admin panel either.

The forum id is in the db, the forum and the description are both there, where else should I check in db for the forums to be listed so they show in the admin panel and the forum homepage?

I don't think its a problem with the php files..Nothing else has changed and I dont think anything could effect the php files so they don't show 3 of the forums.

MySQL wasn't updated, the kernel was just changed (not updated, totally changed to a generic stock kernel)

              Thanks for your suggestions though

Try just selecting change display order on the forum manager this will force a rebuild of the forum cache and might solve the problem. If not can I get database access and an account for the forums to have a look about. PM or email is fine scott (at) vbulletin (dot) com.

It's against the forum rules to solicit paid services on these forums:

                        http://www.vbulletin.com/forum/showt...threadid=42918

Are these forums still in the database? If not, then the info is gone.

Honestly I see no reason why a change in kernel would cause any of these problems, but if you have not installed any hacks (which includes portals), you can fill out a support ticket at:

                        http://www.vbulletin.com/members/mem...ontactform.php

Be sure to include the login info to your Admin CP, phpMyAdmin and FTP.

I'm looking at it at this moment but I'm wondering what forum disappeared. Ids or names is good.

                            Hey,
I got it back by importing data from a backup database.
One of the rows in the forum table was missing, it was the row for the category, which I didn't check, I just checked to see if all forums were in the dump.
Don't know how the category could have gone missing though still but it's back now

                            Thanks
