Upgrading

Hi Guys,

I hired my host to convert my UBB to VBB. Best decision I ever made. I was pretty familiar with UBB and was not scared of upgrading and playing with the cgi files. However, I am very nervous about VBB because , well, I don't want to screw anything up. I am running 1.15 and love it.

I REALLY want to upgrade to Beta 2 . My host is a little hesitant because UBB 6.0 killed his server and he knows how important it is for me to have my site up and running.

My question, I do not want to keep bothering my host when I want to do upgrades. Do I need anything besides ftp ( I use cuteFTP ) to do upgrades?

Since 1.15 has been running smoothly, should I be nervous about upgrading?

The only glitch I have had is an error "too many connections". My host cranked it up to 500 connections now and we are moving to a scsi drive this week. The site is on a dedicated server 450mhz / 264 ram.

All you need is FTP access and "ALTER" permissions in the database, which you should already have.

Hi Glen!

I remember you from a couple of topics at Scriptkeeper. Like you I finally decided that vB was far better than UBB6 and I purchased my copy last week. I haven't switched my Board over yet. I want to wait until vB 2.0 is out of beta. I also want to throughly test out vB with my new Host to make sure there'll be no server problems.

I've set up a private vB test Board that some of my members are using. So far they're very pleased with the changes. It's easily a quantum leap over UBB6. I'm looking forward to making the switch.

the biggest trouble you can have is if you installed any hacks (especially the pm/poll/calender ones).

Well the hacks I've installed are:

- Who's Online
- Memberlist
- Stars
- Last post
- Stats
- Multi-page

Do you foresee any problems transferring my UBB to vB?
