Very urgent - been locked out again :(

HELP! Yet again i've been locked out of my own forum - but this time it's not my fault, and I cannot work out how to get back in :(

I was playing with the usergroups thing (finally starting to get the hang of it) and I set an announcements forum to only allow adminsitrators to post - no posts or replies accepted from anyone else. This worked fine, but it listed the administrators as moderators of that forum which I didn't want, so I went to the moderators page and removed them. Unfortunately this reset all of their permissions to that of a regular user, rather than an admin :(

a) How do I get back into my board - i'm supposed to be launching tommorrow :( I still have yet to finish a few templates, upgrade to 1.1.2 and import all the members and posts...

and

b) Surely this is a fairly major bug - is it fixed in 1.1.2 ? If not, when will it be ?

c) How do I actually set an administrator ? I cannot recall ever having seen the option for that ? Please point me in the right direction :) ta.

You cannot delete the admin in 1.12:)

Thanks, but I had to get my host to edit the thing manually for me as that script doesn't work. He's unavailable currently. I need another way to get back in - HELP!

So you cannot delete an admin in the latest version ? Surely that's not good - what happens if one of your admins goes off on one and they NEED to be removed ? You should be able to remove them - simply fix up any bugs and this won't be a problem...

Umm... heh, I'm afraid that's not entirely true. I had the identical situation as Craig this morning, when I was setting up the BB for opening. I wanted to set a private forum and add permissions only to the admins. When I saw that it adds them all as moderator, I went about deleting them. I deleted myself, however luckily I didn't delete by that point all the admins. So I went to the UBB control panel, found the member number of a fellow admin, downloaded that number.cgi from the Members dir, opened it in notepad and used his username and password from there to log back in and rectify my own settings.


I must say that the whole moderator usergroup is very confusing and not entirely understood.

Just my two cents anyway.

They're a pain in the bloody arse to tell you the truth. For gods sake John, PLEASE can we have some decent instructions for the user groups - either that, or a UBB stylee setup which we can use to get the basics sorted.

I still need help to get back in - my server man is away at the circuit for the weekend :( There must be something I can do ? As I posted earlier, I wanted to get my forum opened tommorrow. This looks like it's gone out of the window for at least a couple of weeks now as i'll be tied up for the foreseeable :(

Like I said, I deleted myself before I deleted all of them, so I logged back in with a username and password of another admin (which I found in his cgi file in the UBB Members directory).

Did you delete ALL admins, or is there any admin left there?

No, what I said was "You cannot delete the admin in 1.12", and by that I meant that you cannot delete all admin access. This means that you could delete admins, just not all of them, it is not *supposed* to let you.

So no matter what you do, there would always be an admin with access. I have also not tested that feature, just so you know, but that is how it is supposed to work:)

Sorry, I meant how did you unlist all the admins from the forum, without losing control of the whole forum ? I guess you did one admin at a time and then gave the permissions back ?

And, yes, I have [b]no[/b] admins left as I removed all the moderators from the forum by going to the moderator page and removing their names from those little boxes...

I'm off to Gossammer Threads to see if I can get that admin script up and running, even if my admin says I cannot... :)

Have you searched other posts here, because I have seen SQL syntax to regain access to admins posted here by John before, and also other posts with succesful attempts at regaining admin access other than that one.

When you do manage to regain access, then try the upgrade (hopefully it will work out fine for you), because then if all goes well you wont have to experience this problem again.

Well, what do you know, we're back in!

For some reason, the 'Administrator' group was removed from the usergroup table, and all admins had their status put back to that of a regular user. Anyway, I used that GT script to allow a regular user to access the control panel, then went in, added a usergroup 'Administrator' with full rights, then reset the regular user permissions to what they should have been...

All AOK... :D
