Users can't post...I can't edit my profile

I've been running into some serious problems for the past week or two. I had hoped it was isolated, but more and more people are e-mailing me saying that they try to login and it won't accept their username and password. I have had to delete their accounts and have them re-register. This has only happened with new users. My old timers are still ok.

This is what one of my members wrote to me: "System said I was already registered with lorigilb and asked me if I
forgot my passcode. So I said yes and it automatically
emailed me my passcode and it appears as I have always
entered it. I tried to log-on with it again and I
still get caught in the loop."

I had a problem which may or may not be related. I tried to edit my signature and when I hit submit it said their is already someone using that e-mail address. I was unable to make any changes to my profile.

I'm running the latest 1.1.3.

Rick there is an issue where a user is allowed to enter upto 15 chars on a password when they register but only can enter 13 chars on the login prompt. It is simply a problem with the two templates specifying different MAXCHARS. I don't know if this is your problem and whether it has been fixed in the newest versions of the templates.

Thanks but that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Please help

I believe that up to the past 16 people who have registered on my board have been unable to post. I did a memeber search and sorted by date registered none of the past 16 have made a single post, that's way out of the norm.

I keep replying to my own post

Latest:
I tried to register with a new user name. I submitted the entry and it said "There seems to be a slight problem with the database"

I still recieved my notification via e-mail BUT like everyone else I could not use my new login info to post.

If my database is corrupt I need to fix it ASAP. I cannot continue to have 10 or more people subscribe everyday and then not be able to post.

I know this probably isn't a great solution but it's all i can offer for right now.

My users who have trouble logging in either post and are asked to log in then or go like they are going to edit their profiles and log in like that.

John is aware of the problem and is working to find a solution. He's not been on the board this past week (and for the next one too) because he's doing some work on the board.

Out of curiousity, which browser are you using? With MS 4.6x I have no troubles except trying to log in from the main page. With NS 4.72 I can't log in at all. With IE 5.x I can't log out.
I've deleted all the cookies related to vB and I still have these problems.

IE 5.0.219xxxxx
NS 4.73

Same problems with both. I'm sure the last couple dozen users to subscribe have various browsers.

My biggest worry right now is the error that says there is a slight problem with the database. It says that right after a new user submits their registration. I should never have "upgraded" from 1.1.2. Everything was finally working perfect for me. I could kick myself in the butt for messing with something that was good.

I invite anyone ot register on my board to see what happens. I'm interested in hearing from several people if they have the same results.

TIA
Rick

I had the same problems with ns4.7, i deleted my cookies.txt and that fixed it. Did you set the vb cookies to / or to /forums

I too get a mysql error on registration, but I can log in without problems

Doron, cookies are set to /.

Plot thickens. I made it so I would not be notified by e-mail when a new user registers. I then registered another user name and it worked 100% No error message and the "new user" could post.

Dunno if this will help, but what was the "slight problem" error?

Doron, I turned off the function that sends a confirmation to the subscriber. Since I have done that new subscribers have been able to post.

I still recieve e-mails telling me that there is a new subscriber, but when I click on the link I get this message:
"vBulletin Message No user specified. If you followed a valid link, please notify the webmaster "

Ed, that's all it said there was a slight problem. I did not recieve an e-mail from the system giving me specifics.

Last but not least I still cannot edit my own profile from either NS or IE. I can edit my wifes profile, she is also an admin on the board.

Is this a problem with the 1.1.3beta3? I have had no one complain about logging in on 1.1.3beta2 so if it is I will make sure to hold off on upgrading.
