What is this error message??

I recieved this error on my system:

Warning: Too many connections in admin/db_mysql.php on line 31
There seems to have been a slight problem with the database. Please try again by pressing the refresh button in your browser.
An E-Mail has been dispatched to our Technical Staff, who you can also contact if the problem persists.
We apologise for any inconvenience

Any idea what I can do about it, besides turning people away??

This means that there are too many simultaneous users for the MySQL database on its default setting. You should get your host or sysadmin to increase the mysql max_connections setting.
