  • Upgrade 3.8.4 to 5.0.3 Attachment, Albums, Avatars are lost

    Hello

my production forum is running with files that are externaly referenced by database

they are in ./customalbums, ./customattachments, ./customavatars, ./customprofilepics etc (5.0.3's admincp confirms this status)

    After upgrading,
    albums are totally lost
Metadata of attachments are available but links are lots (looks like refering to http://127.0.0.1/forum/filedata/fetch?id=132610)
    Avatars, profilles are totally lost

    What did I do wrong?

    thanks for help

Check your URLs in config.php, and also in the URL section of the AdminCP.

      Thanks Mark

for smiley, icons, my DB was still pointing absolute VB3 path on production web server => that is now fixed (and declared in relative path)

for customavatars, I had copied my directories on /forum/custom* in the VB3 way... and not in /forum/core/customavatars => that is now fixed

but for albums and attachments, it still doesn't work for migrated media... despite I can create new ones & this new images work well. So that is a migration issue I have to solve, I think.

        Migrated attachment's size is 0.

It's like read access was not granted...

attachment is solved in 505; fine.

          Still missing is customalbums

in my logs of upgrade from 3.8.7 :
          Upgrade Progress

          Upgrading to 4.0.0 Alpha 1
          ....
          Step 88 - Altering usergroup Table (1 of 1)
Moving picture 1 into the Attachment System
Could not find file "./customalbums/0/1.picture" in filesystem
Moving picture 2 into the Attachment System
Could not find file "./customalbums/0/2.picture" in filesystem
Moving picture 3 into the Attachment System
Could not find file "./customalbums/0/3.picture" in filesystem
          ...

          despite files exist on filesystem
          /forum/customalbums/0/3.picture exists

          What do I make wrong?

          thanks for help.

Are you sure the full system path is correct, and is not changing during the upgrade process?

              Yes it is.

Am i correct with laying customalbums at the root of the forum?

                I restarted from scratch with /customalbums duplicated in /forum/customalbums & /forum/core/customalbums

Albums were converted; so I do not know if it is because of /forum/core/customalbums or others circomstances.
No error in logs this time. Good!

Where are stored albums in VB5? in customattachements? or is customalbums still used?
I notice a /core/customattachements... was it created by migration of albums or a missed copy/paste of myself?
                Can I delete /customalbums?

                thanks

There is no /core/customalbums in the default VB5 package but I would make sure it is empty before deleting anything- if it isn't empty, back it up before deleting.

There is no customattachements folder either by default- the attachment directory you must create and specify yourself- and for security purposes it is best it is not in a folder accessible via a web browser- it is usually a folder you create "above" your public_html folder on your server. PHP can access it buy no web browser can access it directly.

                    Ok thanks Joe

I feel that the used path for migration is /core/customalbums and files are migrated in /core/customattachements... to be merged afterward.

                    Here is the log:
                    • Step 88 - Altering usergroup Table (1 of 1)
                    • Moving picture 619 into the Attachment System
                    • Step 89 - Albums Integration into Attachments Complete

To be confirmed by the next user who migrates

I tested again just for my knowledge...

so for migration, any custom* directories must be located in /forum/core/...

the 4.0.0 alpha 1 migration script loads /customalbums from /forum/core/customalbums and create the converted files in /forum/core/customattachments

those files in /forum/core/customattachments have to be merged in the /customattachments that is read by regular forum (/forum/customattachments by default).

then /forum/core/customalbums & /forum/core/customattachments can be deleted after migration.

I think that should be a candidate for documentation enhancement at least.
