  • why is the php hooks topic closed?

There is no reason to close discussion on the #1 ranked customer improvement request

That thread contains a link to the tracker.
    http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-10333

You should leave the topic open so customers may easily find the tracker link and understand what is being requested.

Hiding this request by letting a locked thread fall further down is not appropriate.

It wasn't me that closed it, but it just seems like it was going round in circles and the usual arguments were starting. We don't have the time to be moderating things like that.

Plus, it's not really anything that we have to be persuaded of. We (as in the support team) know it's an important and popular request, by the same token it's not a simple thing to add, it will take a vast amount of work to do it.

The matter is, however, currently under discussion internally, so there's not really anything else to add to the thread. The strength of feeling is known.

We *will* post back when/if we have any updates.

KI get that there is a disconnect between your wants and he devs actions. But the tracker search is a mess and the forum is how many of us find the most relevant information.

I hope this will stay open, as we are always being told to vote. So these threads point people to voting!

The JIRA is here: http://tracker.vbulletin.com/browse/VBV-10333. It the first result on the word "hooks" in the vBulletin 5 project. You should watch that issue by clicking the link that says "Watch It" if you want to be notified of any updates to it.

Everyone involved with development and support believes some sort of hook system should come back. That isn't enough to start development on such functionality though. What is available in vBulletin 4 is gone and it isn't coming back. It isn't possible for it to come back. Fixing the issue isn't uncommenting a few lines. It requires an overhaul of several key pieces of the software. Even more importantly, such changes will add weeks to any testing cycle that has to be planned and scheduled.

But closing the topic was wrong, there were no arguments, no trolling, closing it is just seems like a cop out.

Arguing with how the forums are moderated are a good way to get threads closed. The topic in question was not accomplishing anything.

There is no argument about how the forum are moderated, but closing such a thread, is like trying make it forgotten. Sorry for my English!

No, it doesn't... The JIRA issue is being tracked and if people want it implemented, they should vote there.

ozzy47 I just don't get it with your infatuation with the obsolete hook system, shouldn't you demand for better API (or something like that)? I think Decado and Scott explained it well. vB5 is still a train wreck that is unable to function at the very basic in both performance and aesthetic, why would you want the developers to waste more time for a thing of the past?

        Edit:
Making this post alone gave me 3 types of errors, the warning fail to load editor error which consistently appear whenever I visit this site, a blank space with something written about node after I hit the post button, and lastly a blank space with something written about floodcheck after I refresh the page. I finally able to read this thread after a third refresh.

Ummm, Decado has asked for this to be added back as well, as well as any other developer that is still willing to make modifications for vB5.

Also I am not the only one infatuated with it, it is the most voted for issue in JIRA.

So if you want a better system, why not make a addon to let developers add mods to vB5 in a easier fashion.

I think hooks really need to come back. I do not know why they needed to close the other thread. Maybe they should make vbulletin 6 with hooks.
