Thanks for the update, Wayne. It's been my experience that 99% of most vBulletin new features have been of no interest to me, but it sure seems like the tremendous benefit of a high speed forum would be of interest to everyone. If vB5 is FAST FAST FAST right out of the box (forumhome loading in < 2 seconds), I'd upgrade immediately.

You're on the latest version? Bundling of these files is put into place where it is prudent.

With the bundling in place, I see 6 javascript files and 1 CSS file coming from vBulletin itself. All of these were loaded from my browser cache not the server. There is some network latency doing that but it is less than loading the files each page load. Plus with concurrent server requests in most browsers it would only affect individuals with dial-up speed access to the internet. Which is a minority these days. Though latency might prove to be a problem with those users that have satellite based access.

On the demo there are additional CSS and Javascript files that come from embedded content like Facebook Connect and the Youtube video on the front-end. Customers can choose to turn off Facebook and not embed video in Modules if they wish. Six javascript files may be excessive but I know further performance work is going on including minifying and caching these items better so they don't need to be downloaded as often.

Combine css files and Javascript files

Right now there are far too many CSS and JS files making page downloads slower. It is common practice today to minify files and condense them. No need to download 10, yes 10! CSS files. That's a lot of wasted requests to a server.
