The majority of our customers do not store images and attachments in the file system. The thing about the guide is that it has to be generalized to fit most scenarios. Unfortunately, it can't fit every situation. There are simply too many customization options in vBulletin to account for them all.

Yes i just figure it out by myself, not all the directory goes into the core, but I suggest to edit the guide and specify this, thanks.

Place the directories inside the core directory - do they work now?

Two different thingsā¦
Installing a product in vBulletin 4.X inserts PHP Hooks into the database and creates database tables to hold the content and information. Uninstalling a product, often deletes its data from the database.
Deleting PHP files from the server doesn't affect PHP Hooks or database tables.
If you don't have the files, you won't be able to do either of these.Last edited by Wayne Luke; Tue 3 May '22, 1:31pm.

ok, one last thing, I can see the guide state:
2.For the Publishing Suite, leave the vBulletin Blog and vBulletin CMS products installed
7. Delete all vBulletin 4.X files. Maintain your attachment, customavatar, and signaturepics directories in their current locations.
Thanks

Attachments, custom avatars, groups, blogs, and CMS items will carry forward if they are available. For anything stored in the file system, you will need the files.

Thanks a lot,
Another question if I may
what about all the images (avatars, attachmentsand so on)
and what about the groups, blogs and CMS?
Thanks a lot for your patience Wayne

You don't need the vBulletin 4 files to upgrade to vBulletin 5. In fact, we tell you to delete your vBulletin 4 files as one of the first steps when upgrading. You simply won't be able to uninstall any third-party addons. vBulletin 5 will get rid of these anyway.
The most up to date guide is located in the vB5readme.html file included in your download package. You can find a shortened version here: Quick Overview: Upgrading vBulletin Connect

upgrade to Vbulletin 5 with only the Vbulletin 4 database
Hello Everyone.
I had my forum on vbulletin 4 on a Hosting that suddenly ceased to exist, so now is about a month that I'm down.
So I'm installing a backup on another hosting but I was thinking to try to upgrade directly to Vbulletin 5.
Do you think is possibile or I need to install the complete backup of the 4 and then updgrade to the v5?
Can you also please direct me to the most update vbulleting 4 to vbulletin 5 upgrade guide?
