  • 5.6.0 upgrade creates tables in Latin_1

    I today have all my tables in utf8_general and am preparing to convert them to UTF8MB4. When looking in the database in my test upgrade I see that _eventhighlights and _ eventhighlightpermission are created using Latin_1 collationing.

    Is that something I have done wrong when upgrading? Is there some setting somewhere that controls this?

    It will create tables using the database's default collation setting. vBulletin has always done this. We figure that the owner of the database knows what they want more than we do so we don't force it. The only exception is on a new installation where the software will force all tables to be created with a UTF8MB4 collation.

    Code:
    ALTER DATABASE DBNAME CHARACTER SET utf8mb4 COLLATE utf8mb4_general_ci;
    Or whatever character set and collation you're using. If you changed your collation on different elements, you need to do this on the database, table, and field levels.
