  • Migrating 5.2.0 from one host/domain to another

    Hey all,
I need help moving from a previous domain to a new domain.

I have a full backup of the homedir already placed onto the server
I have a full backup of the mysql database thats already been imported in successfully.

I have tried to copy all of the contents of the homedir, changed the config.php, and perform a upgrade.php... it installs all the way.
I get a ton of php/sql errors, unable to even go to the admincp

Is there anyone knowledgeable with this scenario that can help me out?

Also, you talk about moving to a new domain - did you update this in AdminCP before taking a backup or did you change this in the database itself after backing up?

      - Add Admin ability to auto-subscribe users to specific channel(s)
      - "Quick Route" Interface...

        Hello,

Migrating from one domain to another consists in:
        1. Updating the DNS record for your new domain to point to your server IP
1.1 Waiting a couple of hours (or 24h if the domain is registered recently) for the DNS to propagate over the internet
        2. Updating the config.php file for your forum to point to your new domain
        3. Clearing the contents of your cache folder

There is no need to make/restore a backup unless you are moving to a new server.
Should you need more assistance feel free to contact me.

        Kind regards,
        George.

I have recently done this type of migration. In simple words, this migration means moving all of your threads, posts and users data to another forum but we don't install the second forum manually.

          My steps were:
          1. turn off the forum
          2. Move the details in my admincp to match new domain
          3. Backup forum file in public_html and also the database.
          4. Go to new server where new domain is ready and pointing to new server. Import database and upload forum files to public_html
          5. Visit the forum admincp and I'm sure you will be able to login.
Maybe I'm missing some points because I don't exactly remember what I did in the end. I will write a tutorial about this after trying this migration again.
