  • Test Site - Install / Upgrade database error

I shut down my live site. I backed up my database and was attempting to set up a test site for my vb5 install/upgrade. I created a new database and imported my back up there. I associated my username with MySQL user. I created a new sub-directory (vb5) and put my vb5 install there. I edited the config file and ftp the upload folder to my server.

I went here to start the script:

    My error:

    Startup Errors
Due to the following errors, the install/upgrade can not continue:
    • Database connection failed due to unexpected error:
      • (1044) Access denied for user 'xxxxxxx'@'%' to database 'section8_vB5'

Please ensure that the database and server is correctly configured and try again

(xxxx replaced my actual user name)

    My live site: 4.12
    My Test site: 5.23

    MySQL5 Connection Settings:

    Local (web applications):
    Host: localhost
    Socket: /tmp/mysql5.sock

Note: Most PHP applications/scripts will accept the following syntax:
    MySQL Host: localhost:/tmp/mysql5.sock

    Remote (MySQL clients):
    Port: 3307

When using "" as a MySQL Host, you need to enable "Remote Connections" for your MySQL user.

    DB Master Username: *********

Any ideas on what I did wrong?

Access Denied error simply means that the database credentials supplied are incorrect.
You'll need to double check that these are correct in order to proceed.

Created a new username/password combo - same result.

I want to make sure I am changing it in the right place:

I tried to associate my current database name without any luck. Then I built a new name just for my test site without any luck. If I edit the values (make up a different password in the config file) then I get this error:

2: mysql_connect() [function.mysql-connect]: Access denied for user 'testdustoff99'@'localhost' (using password: YES)

If I edit the config file with the correct password, then I get the original error.

Ok, started over. Created a new database and new username.

I think I did a clean install versus upgrade. I guess I have plenty of time to practice getting the upgrade to work versus clean install. =]
