    Hello,

After upgrading to 5.6.2, I'm experiencing this strange issue.

I've tried several users as well as different languages. Any idea? Thanks.

What version did you upgrade from?

What is the character set of your language in the AdminCP (Langauges & Phrases -> Language Manager -> Edit Settings for your Language). It should almost always be UTF-8.

      I upgraded from 5.5.5.

The character set is ISO-8859-1 for Spanish. If I change it to UTF-8, the strange text dissapears but á é í ó ú ¿ ñ... are replaced with a symbol now.

The problem is that ISO-8859-1 doesn't actually support Spanish. It is a subset of UTF-8 that supports English only and it is an obsolete character set.

Switch your character set to UTF-8 and set your Locale to a UTF-8 equivalent for Spanish. For Spain, the locale would be: es_ES.UTF-8. For Mexico, the Locale would be: es_MX.UTF-8. That should tell PHP how to display those characters. If you're in a different country, you would have to search for the Locale for you country. I believe we use es_ES.UTF_8 in the official translation that we provide.

If your server says that the Locale doesn't exist, your server administrator / hosting provider will need to install it.

If I change it to UTF8 and es_ES.UTF-8 for locale it works but ñ, á, é í... are replaced with a ? inside of diamond. Is there any way to rebuild all the messages instead of editing them manually to replace the ? symbol with the correct letter?

          Thanks.

Does it do this on new content made after the change or only legacy content?
