  • Users cannot reset password - error: Invalid server response. Please try again.

    Good Evening everyone.
After updating to the latest Forum vBulletin 5.6.2 me and all users of my forum are unable to reset the password.

after input the e-mail adress an error windows appears with the text:

    Invalid server response.
    Please try again.

i searched the internet for an solution but all found solutions wont solve my problem.

here is the link to my fourm: https://www.gaming-legion.com/

if anyone has some ideas or a solution for me that would be great.

    best regards

Invalid Server response is a pretty generic response. We cannot tell why it is occurring.

Please put your site in debug mode and try to update the password again. What is the error returned after you turn on Debug Mode.

i activate the debug mode but issue is still the same.
the support of my host helped me and also send me some kind of log maybe this helps

      Code:
      Chris A. Staff

      Hello,
It appears to be not sending due to vBulletin trying to set the from/sender field as your Hotmail address, this isn't allowed. The from/sender should be an email from your domain such as [email protected]
After changing this, emails are sent and delivered.

      Event: success success
      User: xxxxxxx
      Domain: gaming-legion.com
      From Address: [email protected]
      Sender: [email protected]

      Sender Host: www.gaming-legion.com
      Sender IP: ::1 Authentication: dovecot_login
      Spam Score: Recipient: [email protected]
      Delivery User: -system- Delivery
      Domain: Delivered To: [email protected]

      ID: 1jqCxR-0005gM-1T Delivery Host: smtp.mailchannels.net
      Delivery IP: xxxxxxxx
      Size: 1.17 KB Result: Accepted

However, your frontend is still showing an invalid server response error when submitting even though it has sent the email.
We also verified no problems by using the email test under Diagnostics.
You will need to contact vBulletin and/or your theme developer to see why the frontend page is giving an error unnecessarily.

      Best Regards,

There is nothing you can do about this. your host is not allowing you to send emails out of vBulletin using a hotmail address.

It's not really a good idea to use hotmail addresses for this type of thing anyway. Your forum should have its own domain, and you would normally have at least one email address available on that domain, it should send using that. Password reset emails sent with a hotmail domain are likely to be blocked by most providers as spam/phishing mails.

my Host has already fixed this issue and added a noreply mail but like he wrote the Invalid Server response error message still remains.
Is there nothing i can do?
before updating to the latest version of vbulletin everything was working without problems

An Invalid server response is generic. It is returned by the webserver, not vBulletin, when it doesn't know how to proceed for some reason. Without the debug information requested we have no way of proceeding with your support request.

If it still returns an invalid server request under debug mode, then you will need to obtain the httpd access, httpd error log, and php error log from your host so we can try to determine what the issue is.

It should be noted that you can provide users with a new password in the AdminCP when you edit their user account, simply type a new password into the password box. If you leave it empty then they will keep their old password.

in most case i didn't know where to find this logs but ok.
i'm using this Forum software for the first time.
it was the last time that i purchased a vBulletin license.
This kind of support didn't help.
you can close this thread as solved

You have to ask your hosting provider where to find them. I don't know where to find them on your server either. Every single hosting provider has a different method of doing things.
