  • How do you change the superadmin password via FT?

I'm having difficulty logging into my site using the password reset function. Is there a way to reset the superadmin password via FTP, and if so, how?

There's no way to reset the password using FTP. That would be a security risk.

Have you tried using the tools.php file?

Upload the /core/install folder to the root directory.

Upload the tools.php file from the "Do Not Upload" folder to the /core/admincp directory.

        Navigate to the URL http(s)://www.yoursite.com/core/admincp/tools.php

        Enter your Customer Number.

Create a New Super Administrator account.

        Delete the tools.php file.

        Delete the install folder.

Add the User ID of the new administrator account to the config.php file under Super Administrators.

Login using the new administrator account.

Change the password of the original administrator account.

Optional - Delete the new administrator account.

Optional - Remove the new administrator User ID from the config.php file.

Outside of the user interface, there is no method to change the password. You can use Tools.php to create a new Administrator user and then login with that user. If your Super Administrator is not marked as "UnEditable" in the /core/includes/config.php then you can change their password in the AdminCP after creating the new Administrators.
