  • comments count?!

    Hello,
Why there are no comments count with (responses count, views count, likes count) ?
    it is necessary.

If you want comments to act as posts why not disable comments and force users to post replies? Comments were never intended to serve the same function as posts.

Having said that there's probably already an improvement request for this somewhere.

A comment is a response. They should be included in that count. Why do they need a separate count?

I would suggest that it be an option. What if you set up a forum or forums with the intention of not having comments count as posts? That is how it was implemented.

That is two options.... 1) Count comments as posts. 2) Display the comment count.

In the long run, all this will do is create more complaints about performance. That is more queries per page load. If we cache the information and update it infrequently, then people will complain because it isn't instant.

There really needs to be a good use case to have comments and replies treated differently. They are both responses. Replies are responses to the Topic Starter. Comments are responses to individual Replies. As far as the database is concerned, there is no technical difference between the two. That is, there is no "Comment" content type. The only difference is the parent node. Traversing the node and closure tables to count items is expensive.

They haven't counted as posts for seven and one-half years. Counting them as posts now will fundamentally and substantially alter the Usergroup promotions systems of any forum that uses post count as criteria for promotions.

They count as Responses on my test forum. I am not proposing any changes to the existing software here. If they don't count in a User's Post Count then that would be a completely different issue.
