  • [Bug / Issue] vBulletin 5.5.5 preserve exif metadata in photos

I have updated to 5.5.5 and added the required config text to config.php (forum root) but exif metadata does not appear to be preserved (this is with new attachment uploads).

Currently these images are stored in the database - should I move attachments to the file system?

You must use ImageMagick as your image processing library. Preferably the Imagick (PHP Class). You cannot preserve EXIF information if your site is set to GD. It simply isn't possible to do so.

Settings -> Options -> Image Settings.

I suggest storing them in the file system as well. Even though we provide it as an option, it isn't recommended to store binary files in the database.

ImageMagick 6 is the selected image processing library though GD Resize Quality is showing as 75?

I have tested Imagick PHP and that passed

But still no exif preserved in new image uploads.

I will switch to storing images to the file system.

ImageMagick 6 is the command line version. Is the path correct? Switch to the Imagick class.

Of course, this won't affect older attachments.

I have now selected Imagick - is that correct:

Actually, the path was incorrect - so I have corrected that and switched back to ImageMagick 6 - but still no joy (this is with image attachments uploaded after the changes):

What do you have in the /core/includes/config.php file?

Is that where the $config['Misc']['preserve_exif'] = true; should go? I put it in the config.php in the forum root.

Yes. it needs to go in the /core/includes/config.php file.

OK, thanks - that did the trick. Is the forum root config.php redundant (left over from vB3/4?)
