  • Cannot sort Groups??

Hi all, I'm looking at vBulletin as an option to replace an outdated phpBB forum. Our organization has 35+ chapters all over the United States (and Canada), and each Chapter has its own events and discussions.

    First question:
I think using Groups is the best way to achieve this, but cannot for the life of me get the groups to list in any particular order. Sorting alphabetically automatically would be perfect, but even if I could manually organize them that would be fine.

I've set up 4 of our Chapters(groups) and tried to change the Display Order in the Channel Manager, but this does nothing. Am I missing something? As our club continues to grow, we'll be adding more Chapters (Groups), so having them in order is quite important to us, so new members can easily navigate. The reason I chose groups is because each group can have their Chapter Logo right there. If they could actually be sorted, then this would be perfect.

Second Question: Our members often put small images in their signature line. Sometimes with upcoming event logos, sometimes of their campers. vBulletin seems to be lacking in support for this. I've searched all over the AdminCP and adjusted all Usergroups "Images in Signature" variables to 0, and still cannot upload more than one picture. And that one picture that does upload, is not resized to the thumbnail dimensions... it stays original size. Many of our members are older, and not quite as computer savvy, so this can cause headaches.

You can go to your Admin Control Panel and Channel Management then scroll down to group and then change the numbers around and that will set the order you want

Yes that would be great if it did something. I've tried that and it does nothing on the user end of the forum. It only organizes them within the ACP.

Are list listing with the most recent post first?

You can only sort Group Categories in the AdminCP. Individual groups will use the order set by the Module's options. The default on new installations is Title in Ascending order. You can change this by editing the Module in Site Builder. Users can further override this when viewing groups by clicking on the Filter drop down.

Users are allowed a single [sigpic] in signatures. This is how the system has always worked. The number of images allowed refers to the number of [img] tags allowed. You would have to give your users permission to use the [img] tag. However, be warned that if you use SSL, these images may not appear for everyone. Or worse, force your site into a non-secure mode.

No, it seems the groups remain arranged in the order that they were created. No matter which one I post in, they stay in that order.

Ok thanks for that info. I'm not familiar with Site Builder, but I'll try to find that and see how to edit the module. I don't think the default installation is actually set to Title in Ascending Order, because I haven't changed anything (not sure how to) and if it was set to that then I wouldn't have this issue. If the user wants to override it, thats fine, but the goal is to have the users easily find their Group(s), click the Join button, and then have easy access by clicking My Groups.

Ok, thank again for this info. I'll keep this in mind.

Ok, just realized the "Edit Forum" slider at the top of the window activates Site Builder, so I am a little familiar with it. But I see no way to change the sorting inside the "Group Home Module".

Click the Pencil Icon for the module you want to edit. In the Group Home Module, the sorting options are the last two in the list.

Sorting does not seem to be an option for me in the Group Home Module.

Sorting groups has been implemented in vBulletin 5.5.4. You can sort alphabetically using the Filter menu, and you can set the default in the module configuration.
